The short answer
India has about 200.7 million LinkedIn users as of September 2026 (NapoleonCat), roughly 13.5% of the population, making it LinkedIn's second-largest market after the US. Nearly half are aged 25 to 34. DataReportal counted 170 million registered members in late 2025, up 21.4% in a year. LinkedIn has 1.3 billion+ members worldwide.
How to read these numbers
LinkedIn does not publish a monthly active user figure for India. Every "users" number you see, including ours, counts registered accounts or advertising reach, not people who log in each month. That is why NapoleonCat and DataReportal give different totals for overlapping periods: they pull audience data at different times and round differently. We show both, with dates, so you can cite the one that fits your context.
Where a figure comes from a vendor study (a scheduling tool, an ad analytics firm, an AI detection company), we label it as such. Vendor data is useful for direction, and less reliable as an exact measure of the whole platform.
Users and demographics in India
| Statistic | Figure | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| LinkedIn users in India | 200.7 million | NapoleonCat, September 2026 |
| Share of India's population on LinkedIn | 13.5% | NapoleonCat, September 2026 |
| Largest age group | 25 to 34, with 98 million users | NapoleonCat, September 2026 |
| Users aged 25 to 34 | 48.8% | NapoleonCat, September 2026 |
| Users aged 18 to 24 | 35.9% | NapoleonCat, September 2026 |
| Users aged 35 to 54 | 14.4% (55+ is 0.8%) | NapoleonCat, September 2026 |
| Registered LinkedIn members in India | 170 million | DataReportal Digital 2026: India, late 2025 |
| LinkedIn reach among Indian adults (18+) | 16.4% | DataReportal, late 2025 |
| Gender split of India's LinkedIn audience | 30.8% female, 69.2% male | DataReportal, late 2025 |
| India's rank among LinkedIn markets | 2nd (150 million vs 250 million in the US) | DataReportal LinkedIn stats, January 2025 |
| LinkedIn members worldwide | 1.3 billion+ | LinkedIn About page, accessed October 2026 |
| LinkedIn members in Asia Pacific | 410 million+ | LinkedIn About page, accessed October 2026 |
Two things stand out. First, India's LinkedIn audience is young: about 85% of users are under 35, which matters if you sell to senior buyers, because the decision-makers are a small slice of a very large network. Second, the gender gap is wide. Women make up about 31% of India's LinkedIn audience, against 43.1% globally (DataReportal, January 2025).
Top cities: LinkedIn has not published current member counts by Indian city, and the city-level reports we found date from 2018 to 2020. We have left city figures out rather than repeat stale numbers.
Growth

| LinkedIn Marketing Solutions revenue growth | 16% year over year | LinkedIn Q4 FY26 highlights, July 2026 |
Engagement and formats
The first four rows come from LinkedIn. The rest are vendor studies, so read them as relative signals (documents beat text) rather than precise rates.
| Statistic | Figure | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Time spent on content | +10% year over year | LinkedIn Q4 FY26 highlights, July 2026 |
| Knowledge-oriented posts | +24% | LinkedIn Q4 FY26 highlights, July 2026 |
| Time spent reading comments | +18% | LinkedIn Q4 FY26 highlights, July 2026 |
| Feed updates viewed every minute | 1.8 million+ | LinkedIn About page, accessed October 2026 |
| Median engagement rate by format (vendor: Buffer) | Documents 21.77%, video 7.35%, images 6.52%, links 3.81%, text 3.18% | Buffer, March 2026, via upGrowth |
| Reach multiplier for personal profiles (vendor: AuthoredUp) | Polls 1.64x, documents 1.45x, images 1.18x, video 1.10x, text 0.88x | AuthoredUp via upGrowth, 2026 |
| Share of posts that get saved (vendor: AuthoredUp) | Under 3% | AuthoredUp via upGrowth, 2026 |
| Posting frequency sweet spot (vendor: Buffer, 2 million+ posts) | 2 to 5 posts a week | Buffer via upGrowth, 2026 |
| Average reach change in 2025 (vendor: AuthoredUp) | Down 34% | AuthoredUp via upGrowth, 2026 |
| Year-over-year change for tracked creators (independent research) | Views down 50%, engagement down 25%, follower growth down 59% | Richard van der Blom, Algorithm Insights 2025, via Dataslayer, February 2026 |
| Growth in immersive video uploads from India | 60%, first worldwide | Storyboard18, September 2025 (source not named in the article) |
The pattern across all of these: people are spending more time on LinkedIn, and each post is reaching fewer of them. LinkedIn's own numbers point to deeper reading (comments, knowledge posts), while creator datasets show reach per post falling. Fewer, better posts aimed at a specific audience fit both trends. We explain the ranking changes behind this in our LinkedIn algorithm 2026 breakdown.
B2B buying and thought leadership
These figures come from the 2025 Edelman-LinkedIn B2B Thought Leadership Impact Report, as reported by ContentGrip in July 2025. "Hidden buyers" are people who influence a purchase without being the named decision-maker.
| Statistic | Figure | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| B2B deals that stall because of internal misalignment | Over 40% | Edelman-LinkedIn 2025, via ContentGrip, July 2025 |
| Hidden buyers who say strong thought leadership makes them more receptive to sales | 95% | Edelman-LinkedIn 2025, via ContentGrip |
| Hidden buyers who spend over an hour a week on thought leadership | 63% (64% of target buyers) | Edelman-LinkedIn 2025, via ContentGrip |
| Hidden decision-makers who value insights that reveal needs they had not recognized | 91% | Edelman-LinkedIn 2025, via ContentGrip |
| Hidden decision-makers who prefer content that challenges their assumptions | 86% | Edelman-LinkedIn 2025, via ContentGrip |
| Buyers who prefer a more human, less formal tone | 65% | Edelman-LinkedIn 2025, via ContentGrip |
| Hidden decision-makers more likely to advocate for a proposal after strong thought leadership | 79% | Edelman-LinkedIn 2025, via ContentGrip |
For founders and executives, the 63% figure is the useful one. The person who will quietly shortlist your company is reading for an hour a week, and most of what they read is generic. The founder-led sales playbook shows how to write for that reader.
LinkedIn in AI search
| Statistic | Figure | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| LinkedIn's rank among domains cited in AI answers | 2nd globally, cited in about 11% of responses | Semrush study of 89,000 LinkedIn URLs, via PPC Land, March 2026 |
| Share of cited LinkedIn posts that were original (not reshares) | About 95% | Semrush via PPC Land, March 2026 |
| Feed post length cited most often | 50 to 299 words | Semrush via PPC Land, March 2026 |
| LinkedIn's rank for professional queries across six AI engines | 1st (1.4 million citations analyzed) | Profound, March 2026 |
| Feed posts as a share of ChatGPT's LinkedIn citations | 20.9% to 26.0% (Nov 2025 to Feb 2026) | Profound, March 2026 |
Original posts by individuals get cited by ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode, so a founder's posts can end up in the answer a buyer reads before they ever visit your website. More on this in how LinkedIn posts get cited by ChatGPT.
AI-written content and the AI slop button
| Statistic | Figure | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Long-form LinkedIn posts that were fully AI-generated, April to June 2026 (vendor: Pangram) | 41% | Pangram, via Fortune, October 2026 |
| LinkedIn's share of all AI content Pangram flagged across five platforms | 62% (LinkedIn was about one-third of items scanned) | Pangram, via PPC Land, July 2026 |
| Long-form posts from 99 influential profiles classed "likely AI" (vendor: Originality.ai) | 53.7% of 3,368 posts | Originality.ai, January 2026, via PPC Land |
| "Seems like AI slop" report option launched | July 30, 2026 | Fortune, October 2026 |
| Uses of the AI slop option in its first two weeks | More than 1 million | Hari Srinivasan, LinkedIn CPO, via Social Media Today, August 2026 |
| Views on content LinkedIn classifies as AI slop | About 40% fewer | Srinivasan via Social Media Today, August 2026 |
AI detection vendors sell detection, so treat their percentages with care. LinkedIn's own figure (40% fewer views for content it classifies as slop) is the one that should change behavior. We cover what triggers it in our post on the LinkedIn AI slop button.
Hiring and jobs in India
| Statistic | Figure | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Indian professionals who feel unprepared to find a new job in 2026 | 84% | LinkedIn research via Careers360/PTI, January 2026 |
| Indian professionals actively looking for a new job | 72% | LinkedIn research via Careers360, January 2026 |
| Indian job seekers who plan to use AI tools in their search | 94% | LinkedIn research via Careers360, January 2026 |
| Indian recruiters who say qualified talent got harder to find in the past year | Nearly 74% | LinkedIn research via People Matters, January 2026 |
| Applicants per open role in India | More than doubled since early 2022 | LinkedIn research via People Matters, January 2026 |
| Top three Jobs on the Rise in India, 2026 | Prompt Engineer, AI Engineer, Software Engineer | LinkedIn Jobs on the Rise via Careers360, January 2026 |
| Companies using LinkedIn's AI-powered hiring tools (global) | 20,000+; enterprise seats up 140% quarter over quarter | LinkedIn Q4 FY26 highlights, July 2026 |
| Job applications submitted every minute (global) | About 8,200 | LinkedIn About page, accessed October 2026 |
When applicants per role have doubled, a hiring post from the founder is one of the few ways to reach candidates who are not already applying. Founders who post about their team and how they work tend to get warmer applicants.
LinkedIn ads and Thought Leader Ads
All figures below are medians from ZenABM's 2026 benchmark of 211 B2B companies, 161,256 ads and $5.5 million in spend across 29 countries (ZenABM, February 2026). This is a vendor dataset weighted toward US and European advertisers.
| Statistic | Figure | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Thought Leader Ads median CPC | $2.29 | ZenABM, February 2026 |
| Single image ads median CPC | $13.23 | ZenABM, February 2026 |
| Thought Leader Ads median CTR | 2.68% (vs 0.42% for single image) | ZenABM, February 2026 |
| Thought Leader Ads median CPM | $49.37 (vs $59.15 for single image) | ZenABM, February 2026 |
| Typical cost per lead in APAC | $80 to $120 | ZenABM, February 2026 |
Thought Leader Ads promote an employee's organic post, usually the founder's. The CPC gap is large partly because people click a person's post differently from a brand's ad, so it is not a like-for-like comparison. The Thought Leader Ads guide covers when to use them.
Key takeaways for founders and executives
- The audience is there, and it is young. About 200 million Indians are on LinkedIn, and roughly 85% are under 35. Senior buyers are a minority, so write for a specific role and industry rather than "everyone on LinkedIn".
- Reach per post is falling, reading time is rising. Fewer generic posts and more specific, saveable ones (frameworks, numbers, decisions you made) fit what LinkedIn's own data shows.
- Hidden buyers are reading you. With 63% of hidden buyers spending an hour a week on thought leadership, your posts are part of vendor vetting even when nobody comments.
- Original posts now feed AI answers. About 95% of LinkedIn posts cited by AI engines were original, not reshares.
- Generic AI writing is penalized. LinkedIn says content it classifies as slop gets about 40% fewer views. Use AI for research, write the words yourself or with a human writer.
- A post can become your cheapest ad. Thought Leader Ads had a median CPC of $2.29 against $13.23 for single image ads in ZenABM's dataset.
If you want these numbers working for your own profile, our LinkedIn ghostwriting service turns one monthly interview into 3 to 5 human-written posts a week, and we work with founders across India.
How we compiled this
- Sources: LinkedIn's own pages (About page, Q4 FY26 business highlights), audience datasets (NapoleonCat, DataReportal/Kepios), named research (Edelman-LinkedIn, LinkedIn India job seeker research, Pangram, Semrush, Profound) and vendor benchmarks (Buffer, AuthoredUp, ZenABM).
- Verification: We read every figure on the linked page in October 2026. Where we could only access a secondary report of a study (for example the Edelman-LinkedIn report via ContentGrip), we say so in the source column.
- What we excluded: Numbers we could not trace to a page we read, including the widely repeated "60% reach penalty" for link posts, current member counts by Indian city, and paywalled figures we could not see.
- Definitions: "Users" and "members" mean registered accounts or ad reach as reported by each source, not monthly active users.
- Updates: We refresh this page when NapoleonCat, DataReportal or LinkedIn publish new figures. Last checked October 19, 2026.

Frequently asked questions
How many LinkedIn users are there in India in 2026?
NapoleonCat reports about 200.7 million LinkedIn users in India as of September 2026, around 13.5% of the population. DataReportal counted 170 million registered members in late 2025. Both measure registered accounts or ad reach, not monthly active users, which is why the totals differ. India is LinkedIn's second-largest market after the United States.
Is India LinkedIn's largest market?
Not yet. India is the second-largest market behind the United States. DataReportal's January 2025 data put the US at 250 million members and India at 150 million. LinkedIn's India country manager, Kumaresh Pattabiraman, said in September 2025 that India is the fastest-growing market and could overtake the US within two to three years.
What age group uses LinkedIn the most in India?
People aged 25 to 34 are the largest group, at 48.8% of Indian LinkedIn users, or about 98 million people, according to NapoleonCat's September 2026 data. Another 35.9% are aged 18 to 24, so roughly 85% of India's LinkedIn audience is under 35. Only 14.4% are aged 35 to 54.
What percentage of LinkedIn posts are written by AI?
Pangram, an AI detection company, found that 41% of long-form LinkedIn posts (over 250 words) from April to June 2026 were fully AI-generated, based on posts scanned by users of its browser extension. Originality.ai classed 53.7% of 3,368 long-form posts from influential profiles as likely AI in January 2026. Both are vendor estimates.
Does LinkedIn reduce reach for AI-generated posts?
Yes, for content it classifies as AI slop. LinkedIn launched a "seems like AI slop" report option on July 30, 2026, which was used more than a million times in two weeks. LinkedIn's chief product officer said content classified as slop was getting about 40% fewer views. AI-assisted posts that read as genuinely human are not the target.
