The short answer

LinkedIn allows 3,000 characters in a post, 220 in a headline, 2,600 in the About section and about 1,250 in a comment. Only the first two or three lines of a post, roughly 140 characters on mobile, show before 'see more', so the opening line matters far more than the total length.

LinkedIn character limits in 2026

FieldLimitWhat actually shows
Post3,000 charactersAbout 140 characters or three lines before "see more" on mobile
Headline220 charactersRoughly the first 60 next to your name in most feeds
About section2,600 charactersThe first three lines before "see more"
CommentAbout 1,250 charactersLong comments are truncated in the feed

Limits are as commonly documented in 2026. LinkedIn changes its interface often, so treat the "what shows" column as approximate.

How long should a LinkedIn post be?

Long enough to deliver on the hook, and no longer. Posts between 800 and 1,500 characters are common for founders and executives because they can carry one clear idea with an example. Very short posts work for strong opinions; very long ones only work when every paragraph earns the next.

What this counter checks

  • Characters, words and lines. Some emoji may count as two characters on LinkedIn, so leave a little headroom near a limit.
  • Your count against every LinkedIn limit at once.
  • The approximate "see more" cut, so you can keep the hook above it.
  • Hashtags (three or fewer reads better) and links in the body, which tend to reduce reach.

Frequently asked questions

What is the character limit for a LinkedIn post?

3,000 characters for a regular post, including spaces and emoji. Articles and newsletters allow much longer text.

How many characters show before 'see more' on LinkedIn?

On mobile, roughly the first 140 characters or the first three lines, whichever comes first. On desktop a little more shows. Keep your hook in the first line.

What is the LinkedIn headline character limit?

220 characters. Only around the first 60 appear next to your name in most feeds and comments, so put who you help and the result first.

Does this tool store my text?

No. The counter runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent anywhere.
