I almost turned down our biggest customer. They asked for a feature we did not have. Here is what we did instead:... see more

Text above the dashed line shows before the "see more" cut on most phones (approximate).

Formatting is the easy part. Want the posts written for you?

The short answer

LinkedIn posts do not support rich text, so bold and italic are made with Unicode characters that look like styled letters. Use them sparingly, for one key phrase, because screen readers may read Unicode styled text letter by letter and LinkedIn search does not index it as normal words.

How LinkedIn bold text works

LinkedIn strips formatting from posts. Tools like this one swap normal letters for mathematical Unicode characters that look bold or italic. They paste into LinkedIn like any other text.

Use it carefully

  • Accessibility. Some screen readers spell Unicode styled words letter by letter. Never put your whole post in bold.
  • Search. LinkedIn search may not match styled words, so keep names and keywords in normal text.
  • One idea per post. Bold one phrase that carries the point. More than that and nothing stands out.

Formatting habits that actually help reach

  • Short paragraphs of one to three lines.
  • A hook that fits before the see more cut (the preview shows where it falls).
  • White space between ideas.
  • No more than three hashtags, at the end, if any.
  • Avoid putting links in the post body. Posts with external links tend to get less reach.

Writing every week is the hard part. That is what our ghostwriting service handles.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use bold text on LinkedIn?

Not natively in posts. You can paste Unicode bold or italic characters made with a formatter like this one. LinkedIn articles and newsletters do support real bold and italic.

Where is the see more cut on LinkedIn?

On mobile it usually falls after about 140 characters or three short lines, whichever comes first. The preview here marks an approximate cut so you can keep your hook above it.
