The short answer

LinkedIn profile optimization means rewriting your headline, About section, Featured section, banner, experience and recommendations so a visitor understands in seconds who you help, why you are credible and how to reach you. In 2026 it also means making your profile match what you post about, because LinkedIn uses profile data in ranking.

Why your profile matters more in 2026

Your profile used to be a CV. Now it is part of how LinkedIn decides who sees your posts. Reporting on the 2026 ranking system, such as Upgrowth's 360Brew analysis, notes that LinkedIn names profile data like industry, experience and skills as ranking inputs, and advises keeping your headline, company and posts aligned. Dataslayer's February 2026 review makes a similar point about topical consistency.

In practice: if your headline says "Partner at a law firm" and your posts are about productivity apps, both the profile and the posts send mixed signals. Fixing the profile is usually the cheapest reach gain available. Our 2026 algorithm explainer covers the wider changes.

What we rewrite

SectionWhat good looks likeCommon mistake we fix
HeadlineWho you help, the outcome, one proof pointJob title only, or five titles separated by pipes
AboutFirst person, a clear first three lines, proof, a next stepA third-person bio or a pasted CV
Featured2 to 4 items that move a visitor toward a callEmpty, or an old press release
BannerOne clear message or proof point, readable on mobileStock skyline photo or the company logo alone
ExperienceOutcomes and scope, written for your target readerDuty lists copied from a job description
RecommendationsSpecific, recent, from the people your buyers trustNone, or generic praise from colleagues years ago

Headline

The headline travels with you on every post, comment and search result, so it is the most-read line you own. LinkedIn allows 220 characters, and the first part carries most of the weight in feeds. Our formula: who you help, plus the outcome, plus proof or credential. Try our free headline generator for drafts.

About

The About section can run to 2,600 characters, but most visitors only see the first few lines before the see more cut. We write those lines to stand alone: who you help and the problem you solve. The rest covers why you, two or three specific proof points, what you post about, and how to reach you.

Featured is the most underused part of most executive profiles. We pick items by goal: a booking link or a case study for pipeline, a careers post for hiring, an interview or market note for fundraising, a clinic page or explainer for patients. The banner gets one message that reinforces the headline, designed to read at phone size.

Experience and recommendations

We rewrite your current role and the one or two before it with outcomes and scope (team size, markets, results you are cleared to share). For recommendations, we draft a short, specific ask you can send to a handful of people whose names your audience will recognize, and suggest what each person is best placed to vouch for.

Before and after examples (hypothetical)

These are illustrative, not real clients.

Hypothetical SaaS founder

  • Before: "Founder & CEO at Ledgerly | Entrepreneur | Investor | Speaker"
  • After: "Helping mid-market CFOs close the books in 3 days | Founder, Ledgerly | Ex-Big 4 audit"

Hypothetical cardiologist

  • Before: "Consultant Cardiologist at City Hospital"
  • After: "Interventional cardiologist | Heart health explained without jargon | 15 years in practice"

Hypothetical About opening, VC partner

  • Before: "Priya is a seasoned investment professional with a passion for innovation and a track record of..."
  • After: "I back technical founders building software for boring, expensive problems in Indian manufacturing. Here is what I look for, and what makes me pass."

The after versions name an audience, an outcome and a reason to believe. They also give LinkedIn a clear topic to match against your posts.

Mistakes we fix most often

  • A headline written for recruiters when you want clients, investors or patients. "Open to opportunities" signals the wrong thing to a buyer.
  • An About section that starts with your career history. Visitors want to know what you can do for them before they care where you studied.
  • An empty Featured section, which wastes the most clickable space on the page.
  • Out-of-date experience entries that still describe the company you had three pivots ago.
  • Recommendations from the wrong people. Ten recommendations from former colleagues matter less to a buyer than two from clients they recognize.
  • A photo that undercuts the message. We do not take photos, but we will tell you honestly if yours is cropped from a wedding or a decade old, and brief your photographer.

A sample recommendation request (hypothetical)

Most people never ask for recommendations because the ask feels awkward. A specific request makes it easy: "Hi Arjun, would you be willing to write a short LinkedIn recommendation about the pricing project we did together last year? If it helps, the most useful thing for my audience would be what changed for your team after the new pricing went live. Happy to return the favor." Specific asks get specific recommendations, and those are the ones visitors actually read.

Profile-content match: the part most services skip

A profile makeover that is not connected to a content plan wears off fast. We write your profile from the same positioning that drives your posts, so the headline names the topic your pillars cover and the Featured section points to the content that converts. If you are working with us on LinkedIn ghostwriting or personal branding strategy, the profile rewrite is part of step two of the process, before regular posting starts.

Profile optimization for professionals in India

We work with founders, executives, doctors, chartered accountants and lawyers across India, and with clients in the UAE, US, UK and Singapore. Regulated professionals get extra care. Doctors and lawyers face professional rules on advertising and claims, so we keep language factual and avoid testimonials or outcome promises where they are not permitted. See our pages for chartered accountants and doctors.

What the process looks like

  1. Free LinkedIn teardown: we review your current profile and recent posts and tell you what is costing you.
  2. 45-minute interview: your audience, goal, proof points and how you like to sound.
  3. Draft: every section rewritten, plus a banner brief and recommendation request drafts.
  4. Edits: you mark changes, we revise.
  5. Go live: you update the profile yourself, or we walk you through it on a call. We do not need your password.

How Postlit works with professionals on profile optimization

Some clients come to us only for the profile. Most start with the profile and then add ongoing content, because a sharp profile with no posts gets few visitors. You can check where you stand first with our free profile grader and the profile optimization checklist. Engagements are scoped on a call based on how many sections need work and whether you want ongoing content.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in a LinkedIn profile optimization service?

At Postlit it covers your headline, About section, Featured section, banner brief, experience entries and a recommendations strategy with request drafts. Everything is written from a positioning that also drives your posts, so the profile and content send the same signal to visitors and to LinkedIn's ranking.

How long does a LinkedIn profile makeover take?

For most clients the rewrite is done within the first two weeks, alongside positioning and the 90-day plan, so the profile is ready before regular posting begins. Updating the profile itself takes less than an hour, and you can do it yourself or with us on a call.

Does profile optimization increase LinkedIn reach?

It helps, especially when the profile and your posts cover the same topic. LinkedIn uses profile data such as experience and skills in ranking, so a clear, consistent profile helps your posts reach the right people. On its own, without posting, a profile mainly improves conversion from visitors who already found you.

Should my LinkedIn headline be my job title?

Rarely. A job title tells people your role but not who you help or why you are worth following. A stronger headline names your audience, the outcome you deliver and one proof point. Keep the company name in it only if it carries weight with your audience.

Do you need access to my LinkedIn account to optimize my profile?

No. We deliver the rewritten text and banner brief, and you paste it in, or we guide you through it on a short call. We never ask for your LinkedIn password for profile work. If you also want help with banner design files or Featured links, we send those as ready-to-upload assets with clear instructions.
