LinkedIn playbook for Berlin startup founders and VCs
Berlin founders write for an international talent and investor crowd in English and for German corporate buyers who want substance. This playbook covers both audiences, the GDPR and Impressum points to know, and what LinkedIn ghostwriting costs in euros.

- German Impressum rule for business online presences
- § 5 DDG
- India ahead of Berlin (European winter time)

The short answer
Berlin startup founders should post mostly in English for international investors and talent, add German posts when selling to German corporates or the Mittelstand, and favour substance and numbers over hype. Keep other people's personal data out of posts under GDPR, and check whether a business profile needs an Impressum. Ghostwriting costs roughly €1,335 to €3,120 a month mid-tier.
Who this is for
This playbook is for founders, CEOs and investors in Berlin's startup scene: B2B SaaS and AI companies in Mitte and Kreuzberg, fintechs in the footsteps of N26 and Trade Republic, the commerce and delivery alumni of Zalando, Delivery Hero and the Rocket Internet years, and partners at Berlin funds such as Project A, Cherry Ventures, Earlybird and Point Nine. Many of you are not German, many of your teams work in English, and your customers may be in Munich, London or New York.
LinkedIn is the professional network that matters most for this crowd. Investors check your posts before a first meeting, senior engineers compare your company against remote offers, and German enterprise buyers use LinkedIn alongside Xing to judge whether a startup will still exist in three years.
Two audiences, two registers
| Audience | Language | What they reward | What loses them |
|---|---|---|---|
| International VCs and angels | English | Clear metrics thinking, market insight, speed | Vague vision, buzzwords |
| International talent | English | How you build, engineering culture, visa and relocation honesty | Founder-worship |
| German corporates and Mittelstand buyers | German, or careful English | Substance, reliability, data protection maturity, Sie-form respect | Hype, superlatives, "disrupting German industry" |
| Berlin ecosystem peers | English | Generosity, candid lessons | Humblebrag milestone posts |
| Public sector and research partners | German | Process, compliance, long-term thinking | Move-fast language |
German professional readers are, on average, more sceptical of self-promotion than US readers. "Wir haben ein Problem gelöst, und so haben wir es gemacht" works better than "game-changing".
GDPR, Impressum and other rules
GDPR (DSGVO). Posts and DMs can involve personal data. Do not post screenshots of customer emails, chat messages or attendee lists, and do not name customers or employees in a way they have not agreed to. Anonymised examples and commentary about your own work are generally fine. For specific cases, ask your data protection officer.
Impressum. German law requires business online presences to carry a legal notice. Since May 2024 the rule sits in § 5 of the Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz (DDG), which replaced the Telemediengesetz. The IHK Köln guidance lists LinkedIn among the platforms where business presences are covered, and eRecht24 explains how to add one to a LinkedIn page, usually as a clearly labelled link to your website's Impressum. Purely private profiles are exempt. Whether a founder's personal profile counts as a business presence depends on how it is used; ask your lawyer if in doubt.
Investment content. If you run a fintech or a fund, anything that promotes an investment product falls under financial regulation supervised by BaFin. Founder commentary is usually fine; product promotion needs compliance review.
Ten post angles for Berlin founders
| Angle | Example hook (hypothetical) | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Selling to German corporates | "Our first DAX customer took 14 months to sign. The contract was the easy part." | Enterprise pipeline |
| Data protection as a feature | "We lost a deal because our servers were in Virginia. We moved them to Frankfurt." | German buyer trust |
| Building in English in Germany | "Our team speaks English at work. Our customers do not. Here is how we handle it." | Talent and buyers |
| Hiring internationally | "What relocating 12 engineers to Berlin actually cost us, including the Bürgeramt appointments." | Recruitment |
| Fundraising candour | "We pitched 40 funds. The best feedback came from one that said no." | Investor visibility |
| VC perspective (for investors) | "Three things in a Berlin seed deck that make me stop reading." | Deal flow |
| Product decision | "We built a German-language version before a US one. Investors hated it. Revenue did not." | Product credibility |
| Ecosystem | "The Berlin founder WhatsApp groups are where real advice happens. Here is the best I got this year." | Peer network |
| Regulation | "The EU AI Act in plain English, for founders who sell to German enterprises." | Authority |
| Failure | "Our first startup closed in 2019. What I kept, and what I deliberately did not." | Relatability |
Voice notes
- English for reach, German for trust. Most Berlin founders post mainly in English.
- Numbers and process beat adjectives with German readers.
- No fake Denglisch. Mix languages only when it is natural, and never machine-translate.
- Respect the formal register in German posts aimed at corporates.

How Postlit works with Berlin founders
We are a remote team based in India, with no office in Berlin or anywhere in Germany. India is 4.5 hours ahead of Berlin in winter (European clocks went back on 25 October 2026) and 3.5 hours ahead in summer, so Indian afternoons overlap your mornings.
- Send a short form via WhatsApp or email. A founder replies with a free written LinkedIn teardown, and a 30-minute call follows only if it is a fit.
- Interview. A 45-minute voice interview each month.
- We write, you approve. Human-written drafts in English, with German versions prepared for your native-speaker review where useful.
- We engage and report. Comments on investor, buyer and peer posts, warm DMs flagged, and a monthly report. See our Berlin page for more on the city.
Engagements are scoped on a call.

Frequently asked questions
Was kostet LinkedIn Ghostwriting?
Umgerechnet zum EZB-Kurs vom 19. Oktober 2026 liegen veröffentlichte Preise 2026 bei etwa 445 bis 1.070 € im Monat für Einsteiger-Freelancer, 1.335 bis 3.120 € für spezialisierte Agenturen und ab rund 4.455 € für Executive-Programme. Should Berlin founders post on LinkedIn in English or German?
Mostly English, because Berlin's investors, talent and peers work in English. Add German posts when you sell to German corporates, the Mittelstand or the public sector. German posts should be written or reviewed by a native speaker, never machine-translated.
Does a LinkedIn company page in Germany need an Impressum?
Business presences generally do. Under § 5 of the Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz, which replaced the Telemediengesetz in 2024, business online presences need a legal notice, and IHK guidance lists LinkedIn among the platforms covered. A clearly labelled link to your website's Impressum is common. Ask a lawyer about personal profiles used for business.
Does GDPR affect what I post on LinkedIn?
It can. Posting other people's personal data, such as screenshots of messages, customer emails or attendee lists, without agreement can raise GDPR questions. Commentary on your own work and anonymised examples are generally fine. For specific situations, ask your data protection officer.
